End the Fed! End the Fed! End the Fed!
Right now I’d just settle for reigning IN the fed.
In case you have been living under a rock for the past few days you know that there is a plan being debated in Washington that involves the renegades in Washington giving 700 Billion of MY\YOUR\OUR money to a group of banks that have failed or on the verge of failing.
To make your voice heard fax/call/email your representation, we need to make if VERY clear that if they vote for this abomination of a bill then we will NOT vote for their re-election and will do everything in our power to remove them from office to include campaigning against them. If you need information on contacting your representation please go to THIS LINK and make your voice heard.
There is a sense of urgency about what we do… Once you become knowledgeable you have an obligation to do something about it.
Ron Paul
So. Reality check people. What have you done to advance the cause of Liberty today?
What did I do you ask? Well…. Nothing. Oh granted I dugg a few articles and I’m writing a blog post that I hope will help but when it comes down to CONCRETE ACTION I did nothing today. And I bet you didn’t either. Shame on both of us!
When I got home from work today there was a flyer for some random guy that’s running for the Iowa house stuck in my door. Now I can’t even VOTE here in Iowa (Military votes in their state of record, absentee ballot) but yet I took the time to glance at the flyer. I probably spent a grand total of 30 seconds looking through it. But I now know the guys name - Johnson. And I know one of his points he’s running on is “fixing” health care.
So whats my point? My point is this. I know more about this guy than I did this morning because SOMEONE took ACTION and walked their happy behind up to my door and stuck it in there. We need to be doing something similar. (I’m thinking business cards - more to follow soonish) End of rant.
Today seemed like a fitting day to start this blog off. My goal with this blog will be to share personal experiences with my involvement in Ron Paul’s Campaign For Liberty. I hope to share experiences and (unofficial) training material here that will help others as we all work towards our common goal.
Liberty.
7 years ago I sat in stunned silence watching the world trade centers collapse at a friends house. The images from that day are burned into my brain. I turned 18 the day after 9-11, my planned party turned into a very somber occasion. My family did not own a TV and lived in a rural area so I remained glued to a radio for the next couple weeks drinking in every bit of information I could find on what was going on. I was PISSED and looking for blood, I made peace with the situation like many by taking solace in the fact that we were going to bomb the crap out of whoever was responsible.
Fast forward to February 2003 - I enlisted in the US Air Force, I felt that that was where God wanted me and by God I wanted to do something GOOD to help our nation assert that we would not be pushed around by terrorists.
March 17th 2003 we were instructed to go to our “dayroom” and turn on the (forbidden) TV. President bush gave a 48 hour ultimatum to Saddam Hussian to get out of Iraq, two days later the bombs began dropping. Rumors flew, our training instructor insinuated that we were possibly going to skip additional training and be sent right to Iraq for “security details” this of course did not happen.
The next several years were spent by me learning my job in the Air Force and deploying (voluntarily) three times. I spent a very limited time in Iraq with the majority of my time being spent “in the rear with the gear”… Oh - I also drank the kool-aid and voted for Bush with an absentee ballot during his re-election.
September 2007
“Google Ron Paul” a hand lettered sign that was hanging almost sideways outside the gate to my base read. I had seen this sign several times before, but this time I was headed into a night shift at work with very little to accomplish. I google-d him at work, and read for hours. Went home and watched youtube for hours more. Dr. Ron Paul “cured me of my apathy” yes that phrase has become almost cliche but it fits. I donated a few hundred dollars to the campaign and waved signs a few times. Pressure from my leadership at work kept me from being as involved as I wanted to in the campaign. (If you want to know more details about how limited military members are check out section 3 (especially 3.15) of this regulation)
A couple weekends ago I had the distinct pleasure of attending the Rally For The Republic. I got in just under the wire for the Real Politics training school where I learned a LOT about how politics actually works. That day was also when I got to see Dr. Paul for the first time. I saw one of the organizers hold up a sign for the speaker that said “Ron Paul 10 minutes” *Adrenaline Rush* I dug out my camera and tried to continue taking notes - my hands were shaking too much to do so though - Rachael, state coordinator from Rhode Island thought I was having a diabetic attack and asked if I was okay, thanks for checking Rachael
When Dr. Paul came into the room I yelled at the top of my lungs for a couple minutes along with everyone else. I also managed to get his speech on video.
“What really counts is what we believe in…. Cause Ideas are what moves the world - and that is what really counts”
Wow. What a day. And the weekend had just started.
That night I got to meet my state coordinator for the first time and he told me that it was a “possibility” that I might be able to get into the leadership training the next morning. I showed up the next day and thanks to the efforts of a couple people I was given an empty seat that the Rhode Island group had from someone unable to make it. The website and tools we were shown that day were sweet. Too many people asked too many questions that day in my opinion. Some of them needed to be asked, others did not. I really think that the main reason that some folks came away from the meeting aggravated is that the C4L did not have work for us to do RIGHT AWAY. A few others came away angry because it was explained to them that they were not nearly as important as they thought they were. All in all I thought it was a great day, seeing the general overall goals for the C4L and the beta versions of some of the tools to make it happen was pretty cool. I also got my picture taken with Dr. Paul (although I have not got it yet - anyone know how to get those pics?)
Went to the concert and went absolutely NUTS during the revolution song - holy crud was that a fun night or what?
The next morning I got to the Target center about 10:30 - I had been asked to sing the national anthem at the Rally mainly because I was US Military and because Rocky Lynne had had to drop out last minute. I am far from a professional singer and had never sang in front of a group that size so was seriously freaking out. Barry Goldwater Jr., Thomas Woods and some of the other speakers gave me some encouragement that really helped me calm down.
I really wish I hadn’t hit that one really sour note but about 10 seconds after that you guys in the crowd got loud enough for me to hear above the sound system - I have never felt more proud of my country than I did at that point, thousands of patriots singing - I have goosebumps.
The C4L\R4R staff treated me like gold for the rest of the day - I liveblogged for about a half hour with my new found friends from www.unitedliberty.org for a while and had the honor of attending the donor dinner. When Amiee Allen did the revolution theme song the dinner stopped and everyone either gathered around TV’s or snuck into a skybox where we could see part of the stage, seeing 10,000 people go NUTS and singing right along was another of the highlights of the weekend.
Confetti. Ron Paul. Ron Paul. Ron Paul. Ron Paul.
Wow.
Dr Paul gave a speech that left me speechless. Part 1 Part 2
There was an AWESOME afterparty, I’m no dancer but I goofed off on the dance floor and about 15 of us had a good time just letting loose. (Peggy if you read this I’m sorry about the “bad song” M. if you read this I really enjoyed talking with you - I need a flight out of Iowa, drop me an email :))
Then the weekend was over - I went home.
Then I go back to work and I have someone ask me if the reason I went to St Paul was to try and get to see John Mccain. I told them no and told them why I was there, we actually had a good discussion about Ron Paul and I think we will have many more, and that’s a good thing.
I guess the thing that’s getting to me is I got the chance to see what liberty looked like for the past few days, and that’s what I’m SUPPOSED to be defending as a military member, and then it all comes crashing down today with this thing at work and the pitiful excuses that the RNC has used to keep even our few votes from counting. I love my job - but I almost feel like a traitor just going to work.
